Jeffrey T. Kirby has been practicing law since 1988 with an emphasis on family law -- divorce, dissolution, estate planning and real estate. He is a court magistrate in Springboro and Franklin, and a certified mediator. He is a 1983 graduate of Miami University with a bachelor's degree in English and a 1987 graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law. He is the author of two books that, like John Grisham, present a courtroom drama, but also, like Forrest Gump, offer a historical setting. He writes a weekly column for the Dayton Daily News on a variety of topics, all with a goal of personal enrichment.

"Lawyers do with people's legal problems what oncologists must do with people's cancer issues -- we explore all the available options and choose the one that is most workable, taking into consideration the expense and degree of success. The popular thing is to portray yourself as a fighter, but there can be substantial downsides for the client to that sort of approach. It's more expensive, plus it allows for more uncertainty in the outcome. It's better to be both pragmatic and assertive. This not only achieves the desired result, but accomplishes it in a more economical way."
